Our Story
From High tech to Low tech, we were a typical Internet tech couple. Riding high on the economic wave generated by the Internet. High salary’s, trendy restaurants, & insane impulse buying these things were par for the course & we reveled in it. Then the bottom dropped out of the stock market in May of 2001, and the wave crashed. Then 911 happened, & it became impossible to find a tech job anywhere. Christmas that year was bleak but we were able to exchange a few small gifts, (it's the thought that counts). One of those small gifts was a $20.00 soap making kit purchased for my wife. Little did we know that the little $20.00 kit would change our lives. For the next year & a half the days were long and idle, with a few spotty consulting gigs in between. On one of those idle days we decided to try out the dusty soap making kit that had yet to be opened, 3 years later we have our own soap making company & returning to the tech market is only a memory.

Our Mission
Our mission is simple, to create products that are as free as possible from the chemical additives & preservatives that permeate all aspect of our daily lives. When we started making soap for the public, we wanted to create products that allow our customers to retreat from the toxic environment that surrounds them, even if only for a few minutes a day in their shower or bath.

Our Products
We use fresh herbs, botanicals & essential oils in our products. Essential oils are highly concentrated, and potent oils extracted from plants, leaves, flowers, roots, barks, resins, and citrus fruits. Each essential oil comes from just one source (the plant), with no synthetic processing. Additionally, essential oils possess therapeutic, healing, and medicinal properties that can be traced back through the centuries. Once a person becomes familiar with the aroma of an essential oil there is no substitute.

About Essential Oils
It is no secret that the vast majority of soaps & other cosmetics on the market today are made with Fragrance oils. Fragrance oils are a blend of synthetically derived chemicals that impart aroma and odor to products. It may take more than 200 different laboratory chemicals to make s single fragrance oil. In addition, fragrance oils possess absolutely no medicinal or therapeutic value what so ever. Fragrance oil can be synthesized to mimic many natural aromas. However, do not be fooled, there is actually nothing natural about a synthetic fragrance. Sadly, fragrance oils cost substantially less than essential oils. Which is why the vast majority of popular soaps & skin care products on the market today are loaded with them. However, nothing man made smells quite as perfect and just like a fresh cut plant or flowere as a true essential oil.

More About Our Products
Additionally, our products are loaded with exotic skin nourishing moisturizers. Every soap that we make contains a unique formulation of 100% natural emollients, which are beneficial to skin care and can even clear up some skin conditions. Some examples of these ingredients are Almond oil, Shea Butter, Hemp oil, Walnut oil, Jojoba oil, Shea Butter, Cocoa Butter, and Avocado butter. These ingredients are noticeably absent in the majority of commercially available products today.

About Our Glycerin Soaps
We use the Highest Quality Glycerin to make our soaps. Most "soaps" on the market today are not actually soaps. They are detergent bars (sometimes called "beauty bars" on the packaging because they are not true soaps). They are made with synthetic ingredients (surfactants/sulfates) like sodium dodecylbenzene-sulfonate a harsh synthetic detergent that can irritate the skin & eyes and cause vomiting if swallowed. Additionally, many of the chemicals used in commercial soaps are very harsh & commonly cause extreme dryness & irritation in the user. However, low grade glycerin is an attractive purchase, because it cost considerably less than quality glycerin, and it allows the company to make more soap for less money. At The Key West Soap Factory our soaps are free of Sulfates, Surfactants, Alcohol, detergents, and animal by-products. Fortunately there is no need to take a chemistry course to understand the quality of our products. Simply spend a few moments with our products, in your shower or bath & the quality will be undeniable.
